Exo 5:2 And Par’oh said, Who is YHWH, that I should obey his voice * to let Yisra’el go? I
know not * YHWH, neither * will I let Yisra’el go.
Exo 5:3 And they said, The Elohim of the Hebrews has met with us: let us go, we pray you,
three days’ journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto YHWH our Elohim; lest He fall upon
us with pestilence, or with the sword.

the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.

rest * from their burdens.

gather straw for themselves.
Exo 5:8 And the tale of the bricks, which they did make before, you shall lay upon them; you
shall not diminish ought thereof: for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and
sacrifice to our Elohim.
Exo 5:9 Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labor therein; and let
them not regard vain words.
Exo 5:10 And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spoke to
the people, saying, Thus saith Par’oh, I will not give you straw.
Exo 5:11 Go you, get you straw where you can find it: yet not a word of your work shall be
diminished.
Exo 5:12 So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Mitzrayim to gather
stubble instead of straw.

when there was straw.

them, were beaten, and demanded, Why have you not fulfilled your task in making brick

Why deal you thus with your servants?

behold, your servants are beaten; but the fault is in your own people.
Exo 5:17 But he said, You are idle, you are idle: therefore you say, Let us go and do sacrifice
to YHWH.
Exo 5:18 Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall you

made * our savor to be abhorred in the eyes of Par’oh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put
a sword in their hand to slay us.
Exo 5:22 And Moshe returned unto YHWH, and said, Adonai, why have you so evil
entreated this people? why is it that you have sent me?
Exo 5:23 For since I came to Par’oh to speak in your name, he has done evil to this people;
neither have you delivered * your people at all.
Exo 6:1 Then YHWH said unto Moshe, Now shall you see what I will do to Par’oh: for with a
strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land.

Haftarah (Shabbat Evening Portion)

– The sending of a prophet to Yahudah and the remembering of the time in the wilderness

Jer 1:1 The words of YermeYahu the son of ChilkiYah, of the priests that were in Anatot in
the land of Benyamin:
Jer 1:2 To whom the word of YHWH came in the days of YoshiYahu the son of Amon king of
Yahudah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.
Jer 1:3 It came also in the days of Yehoiakim the son of YoshiYahu king of Yahudah, unto
the end of the eleventh year of TzedekiYahu the son of YoshiYahu king of Yahudah, unto the
carrying away of Yahrushalayim captive in the fifth month.
Jer 1:4 Then the word of YHWH came unto me, saying,
Jer 1:5 Before I formed you in the belly I knew you; and before you came forth out of the
womb I sanctified you, and I ordained you a prophet unto the nations.
Jer 1:6 Then said I, Ah, Adonai Elohim! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.
Jer 1:7 But YHWH said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for you shall go to all that I shall send
you, and whatsoever I command you, you shall speak.
Jer 1:8 Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with you to deliver you, saith YHWH.
Jer 1:9 Then YHWH put forth * His hand, and touched my mouth. And YHWH said unto
me, Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.
Jer 1:10 See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and
to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.
Jer 1:11 Moreover the word of YHWH came unto me, saying, YermeYahu, what see you? And
I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.
Jer 1:12 Then said YHWH unto me, You have well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform
it.
Jer 1:13 And the word of YHWH came unto me the second time, saying, What see you? And
I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.
Jer 1:14 Then YHWH said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the
inhabitants of the land.
Jer 1:15 For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith YHWH; and
they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of
Yahrushalayim, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of
Yahudah.
Jer 1:16 And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have
forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other elohim, and worshipped the works of
their own hands.
Jer 1:17 You therefore gird up your loins, and arise, and speak unto * them all that I
command you: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound you before them.
Jer 1:18 For, behold, I have made you this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and copper
walls against the whole land, against the kings of Yahudah, against the princes thereof,
against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.
Jer 1:19 And they shall fight against you; but they shall not prevail against you; for I am with
you, saith YHWH, to deliver you.
Jer 2:1 Moreover the word of YHWH came to me, saying,
