his getting, which he had gotten in Padan-aram, for to go to Yitzchak his father in the land of

face toward the mount Gil’ad.

heed that thou speak not to Ya’akov either good or bad.
Gen 31:25 Then Lavan overtook Ya’akov. Now Ya’akov had pitched his tent in the mount: and
Lavan with his brethren pitched in the mount of Gil’ad.
Gen 31:26 And Lavan said to Ya’akov, What have you done, that you have stolen away unawares
to me, and carried away my daughters, as captives taken with the sword?
Gen 31:27 Why did you flee away secretly, and steal away from me; and did not tell me, that I
might have sent you away with mirth, and with songs, with tabret, and with harp?
Gen 31:28 And have not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? you have now done
foolishly in so doing.
Gen 31:29 It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt: but the Elohim of your father spoke
unto me last night, saying, Take you heed that you speak not to Ya’akov either good or bad.

–  Lavan asks Ya’akov why he stole his idols and Ya’akov says let him die whoever has your idols

Peradventure you would take by force your daughters from me.

thee; for the custom of women is upon me. And he searched, but found not the images.

–  Ya’akov was angry with Lavan and told him that it was him who was not fair

Gen 31:36 And Ya’akov was wroth, and chided with Lavan: and Ya’akov answered and said to
Lavan, What is my trespass? what is my sin, that you have so hotly pursued after me?
Gen 31:37 Whereas you have searched all my stuff, what have you found of all your household
stuff? set it here before my brethren and your brethren, that they may judge between us
both.
Gen 31:38 This twenty years have I been with you; your ewes and your she goats have not cast
their young, and the rams of your flock have I not eaten.
Gen 31:39 That which was torn of beasts I brought not unto you; I bore the loss of it; of my
hand did you require it, whether stolen by day, or stolen by night.
Gen 31:40 Thus I was; in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my
sleep departed from my eyes.
Gen 31:41 Thus have I been twenty years in your house; I served you fourteen years for your
two daughters, and six years for your cattle: and you have changed my wages ten times.
Gen 31:42 Except the Elohim of my father, the Elohim of Avraham, and the fear of Yitzchak,
had been with me, surely you had sent me away now empty. Elohim has seen my affliction
and the labor of my hands, and rebuked you last night.

witness between me and you.

an heap: and they did eat there upon the heap.

Haftarah (Shabbat Evening Portion)

– Efrayim is lost but shall be saved if he returns to the ways of YHWH

Hos 12:13 And by a prophet YHWH brought Yisra’el out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he
preserved.
Hos 12:14 Efrayim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon
him, and his reproach shall his Adonai return unto him.
Hos 13:1 When Efrayim spoke trembling, he exalted himself in Yisra’el; but when he offended
in Ba’al, he died.
Hos 13:2 And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver,
and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say
of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.
Hos 13:3 Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passes away,
as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the
chimney.
Hos 13:4 Yet I am YHWH your Elohim from the land of Egypt, and you shall know no El but
me: for there is no savior beside me.
Hos 13:5 I did know you in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.
Hos 13:6 According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was
exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.
Hos 13:7 Therefore I will be unto them as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe them:
Hos 13:8 I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of
their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them.
Hos 13:9 O Yisra’el, you have destroyed yourself; but in me is your help.
Hos 13:10 I will be your king: where is any other that may save you in all your cities? and your
judges of whom you said, Give me a king and princes?
Hos 13:11 I gave you a king in my anger, and took him away in my wrath.
Hos 13:12 The lawlessness of Efrayim is bound up; his sin is hid.
Hos 13:13 The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for he
should not stay long in the place of the breaking forth of children.
Hos 13:14 I will ransom them from the power of She’ol; I will redeem them from death: O
death, I will be your plagues; O grave She’ol, I will be your destruction: repentance shall be
hid from my eyes.
Hos 13:15 Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of
YHWH shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain
shall be dried up: he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels.
Hos 13:16 Shomron shall become desolate; for she has rebelled against her Elohim: they shall
fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be
ripped up.
Hos 14:1 O Yisra’el, return unto YHWH your Elohim; for you have fallen by your lawlessness.
Hos 14:2 Take with you words, and turn to YHWH: say unto him, Take away all lawlessness,
and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips.
Hos 14:3 Asshur shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses: neither will we say any more to
the work of our hands, You are our elohim: for in you the fatherless finds mercy.
Hos 14:4 I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for my anger is turned away from
him.
Hos 14:5 I will be as the dew unto Yisra’el: he shall grow as the lily, and cast forth his roots as
Levanon.
Hos 14:6 His branches shall spread, and his beauty shall be as the olive tree, and his smell as
Levanon.
Hos 14:7 They that dwell under his shadow shall return; they shall revive as the grain, and grow
as the vine: the scent thereof shall be as the wine of Levanon.
Hos 14:8 Efrayim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard him, and
observed him: I am like a green fir tree. From me is your fruit found.
Hos 14:9 Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them?
for the ways of YHWH are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall
fall therein.
