Parashat Text with Readers and Daily Portions (Reader 1 Starts on Saturday Evening)

Beshelach “When He Sent”
Ex 13:17 – 17:16 , Jdg 4:4 – 5:31

Reader 1 (Saturday Evening Portion)

Exo 13:17 And it came to pass, when Par’oh had let the people go, that Elohim led them not
through the way of the land of the Pelishtim, although that was near; for Elohim said, Lest
peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Mitzrayim:
Exo 13:18 But Elohim led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Sea of
Suf: and the children of Yisra’el went up harnessed out of the land of Mitzrayim.
Exo 13:19 And Moshe took the bones of Yosef with him: for he had straitly sworn the
children of Yisra’el, saying, Elohim will surely visit you; and you shall carry up my bones
away from here with you.
Exo 13:20 And they took their journey from Sukkot, and encamped in Etam, in the edge of
the wilderness.

YHWH went before them in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night

Exo 13:21 And YHWH went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way;
and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:
Exo 13:22 He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night,
from before the people.

(Sunday Morning Portion)

YHWH told Moshe to camp by the sea and Par’oh will come and attack them and he did

Exo 14:1 And YHWH spoke unto Moshe, saying,
Exo 14:2 Speak unto the children of Yisra’el, that they turn and encamp before Pi-Hachirot,
between Migdol and the sea, over against Ba’al-Tzefon: before it shall you encamp by the
sea.
Exo 14:3 For Par’oh will say of the children of Yisra’el, They are entangled in the land, the
wilderness has shut them in.
Exo 14:4 And I will harden Par’oh’s heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be
honored upon Par’oh, and upon all his army; that the Mitzrayim may know that I am
YHWH. And they did so.
Exo 14:5 And it was told the king of Mitzrayim that the people fled: and the heart of Par’oh
and of his servants was turned against the people, and they said, Why have we done this,
that we have let Yisra’el go from serving us?
Exo 14:6 And he made ready his chariot, and took his people with him:
Exo 14:7 And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Mitzrayim, and
captains over every one of them.
Exo 14:8 And YHWH hardened the heart of Par’oh king of Mitzrayim, and he pursued after
the children of Yisra’el: and the children of Yisra’el went out with a high hand.

Reader 2 (Sunday Evening Portion)

When Par’oh came Yisra’el cried out to Moshe did you bring us out to kill us

Exo 14:9 But the Mitzrayim pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Par’oh, and
his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pi-Hachirot,
before Ba’al-Tzefon.
Exo 14:10 And when Par’oh drew near, the children of Yisra’el lifted up their eyes, and,
behold, the Mitzrayim marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of
Yisra’el cried out unto YHWH.
Exo 14:11 And they said unto Moshe, Because there were no graves in Mitzrayim, have you
taken us away to die in the wilderness? why have you dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out
of Mitzrayim?
Exo 14:12 Is not this the word that we did tell you in Mitzrayim, saying, Let us alone, that we
may serve the Mitzrayim? For it had been better for us to serve the Mitzrayim, than that we
should die in the wilderness.

(Monday Morning Portion)

Moshe told Yisra’el to be still and see the salvation of YHWH

Exo 14:13 And Moshe said unto the people, Fear you not, stand still, and see the salvation of
YHWH, which he will show to you today: for the Mitzrayim whom you have seen today,
you shall see them again no more forever.
Exo 14:14 YHWH shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.

Reader 3 (Monday Evening Portion)

YHWH told Moshe to tell the people to go forward and Moshe to lift up his rod over the sea

Exo 14:15 And YHWH said unto Moshe, Why cry you unto me? speak unto the children of
Yisra’el, that they go forward:
Exo 14:16 But lift you up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it: and
the children of Yisra’el shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
Exo 14:17 And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Mitzrayim, and they shall follow
them: and I will get me honor upon Par’oh, and upon all his army, upon his chariots, and
upon his horsemen.
Exo 14:18 And the Mitzrayim shall know that I am YHWH, when I have gotten me honor
upon Par’oh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.

YHWH went behind Yisra’el in a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night to separate them from the Mitzrayim

Exo 14:19 And the angel of Elohim, which went before the camp of Yisra’el, removed and
went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind
them:
Exo 14:20 And it came between the camp of the Mitzrayim and the camp of Yisra’el; and it
was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came
not near the other all the night.

(Tuesday Morning Portion)

A strong East wind divided the waters that night and Yisra’el went accross but Par’oh’s men followed them

Exo 14:21 And Moshe stretched out his hand over the sea; and YHWH caused the sea to go
back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were
divided.
Exo 14:22 And the children of Yisra’el went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground:
and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
Exo 14:23 And the Mitzrayim pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even
all Par’oh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.
Exo 14:24 And it came to pass, that in the morning watch YHWH looked unto the army of
the Mitzrayim through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the army of the
Mitzrayim,
Exo 14:25 And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave them heavily: so that the
Mitzrayim said, Let us flee from the face of Yisra’el; for YHWH fights for them against the
Mitzrayim.

Reader 4 (Tuesday Evening Portion)

YHWH told Moshe to stretch out his hand over the sea and it came down on Par’oh’s men

Exo 14:26 And YHWH said unto Moshe, Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters
may come again upon the Mitzrayim, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.
Exo 14:27 And Moshe stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his
strength when the morning appeared; and the Mitzrayim fled against it; and YHWH
overthrew the Mitzrayim in the midst of the sea.
Exo 14:28 And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the
army of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of
them.
Exo 14:29 But the children of Yisra’el walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the
waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
Exo 14:30 Thus YHWH saved Yisra’el that day out of the hand of the Mitzrayim; and Yisra’el
saw the Mitzrayim dead upon the sea shore.
Exo 14:31 And Yisra’el saw that great work which YHWH did upon the Mitzrayim: and the
people feared YHWH, and believed YHWH, and his servant Moshe.

When Yisra’el saw the great work that YHWH did they feared and believed and sang the song of Moshe

Exo 15:1 Then sang Moshe and the children of Yisra’el this song unto YHWH, and spoke,
saying, I will sing unto YHWH, for he has triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider has
he thrown into the sea.
Exo 15:2 YHWH is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my Elohim,
and I will prepare him a habitation; my father’s Elohim, and I will exalt him.
Exo 15:3 YHWH is a man of war: YHWH is his name.
Exo 15:4 Par’oh’s chariots and his host has he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are
drowned in the Sea of Suf.
Exo 15:5 The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone.
Exo 15:6 Your right hand, O YHWH, is become glorious in power: your right hand, O
YHWH, has dashed in pieces the enemy.
Exo 15:7 And in the greatness of your excellency you have overthrown them that rose up
against you: you sent forth your wrath, which consumed them as stubble.
Exo 15:8 And with the blast of your nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods
stood upright as a heap, and the depths were settled in the heart of the sea.
Exo 15:9 The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall
be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.
Exo 15:10 You did blow with your wind, the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the
mighty waters.
Exo 15:11 Who is like unto you, O YHWH, among the mighty? who is like you, glorious in
holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?
Exo 15:12 You stretched out your right hand, the earth swallowed them.
Exo 15:13 You in your mercy have led forth the people which you have redeemed: you have
guided them in your strength unto your holy habitation.
Exo 15:14 The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of
Peleshet.
Exo 15:15 Then the chiefs of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Mo’av, trembling
shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Kena’an shall melt away.
Exo 15:16 Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of your arm they shall be as
still as a stone; till your people pass over, O YHWH, till the people pass over, which you have
purchased.
Exo 15:17 You shall bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of your inheritance, in
the place, O YHWH, which you have made for you to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Adonai,
which your hands have established.
Exo 15:18 YHWH shall reign for ever and ever.
Exo 15:19 For the horse of Par’oh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the
sea, and YHWH brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Yisra’el
went on dry land in the midst of the sea.

(Wednesday Morning Portion)

Miryam took a timbrel in her hand and danced with the women singing

Exo 15:20 And Miryam the prophetess, the sister of Aharon, took a timbrel in her hand; and
all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.
Exo 15:21 And Miryam answered them, Sing you to YHWH, for he has triumphed gloriously;
the horse and his rider has he thrown into the sea.

Three days in they came to Marah and the people complained because the waters were too bitter to drink so Moshe made them sweet

Exo 15:22 So Moshe brought Yisra’el from the Sea of Suf, and they went out into the
wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.
Exo 15:23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for
they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah.
Exo 15:24 And the people murmured against Moshe, saying, What shall we drink?
Exo 15:25 And he cried unto YHWH; and YHWH showed him a tree, which when he had
cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an
ordinance, and there he proved them,
Exo 15:26 And said, If you will diligently hearken to the voice of YHWH your Elohim, and
will do that which is right in his sight, and will give ear to his commandments, and keep all
his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon you, which I have brought upon the
Mitzrayim: for I am YHWH that heals you.

Reader 5 (Wednesday Evening Portion)

When they came to Elim all the people complained to Moshe because they were hungry

Exo 15:27 And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and seventy palm trees:
and they encamped there by the waters.
Exo 16:1 And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of
Yisra’el came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth
day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Mitzrayim.
Exo 16:2 And the whole congregation of the children of Yisra’el murmured against Moshe
and Aharon in the wilderness:
Exo 16:3 And the children of Yisra’el said unto them, Would to Elohim we had died by the
hand of YHWH in the land of Mitzrayim, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat
bread to the full; for you have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole
assembly with hunger.

YHWH told Moshe he would rain bread from heaven and test the people in how they gathered it

Exo 16:4 Then said YHWH unto Moshe, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and
the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether
they will walk in my law, or no.
Exo 16:5 And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they
bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.

(Thursday Morning Portion)

Moshe tells the people they are not complaining to him but to Elohim and YHWH will give them meat in the evening and bread in the morning

Exo 16:6 And Moshe and Aharon said unto all the children of Yisra’el, At even, then you
shall know that YHWH has brought you out from the land of Mitzrayim:
Exo 16:7 And in the morning, then you shall see the glory of YHWH; for that he hears your
murmurings against YHWH: and what are we, that you murmur against us?
Exo 16:8 And Moshe said, This shall be, when YHWH shall give you in the evening flesh to
eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that YHWH hears your murmurings which you
murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against
YHWH.
Exo 16:9 And Moshe spoke unto Aharon, Say unto all the congregation of the children of
Yisra’el, Come near before YHWH: for he has heard your murmurings.
Exo 16:10 And it came to pass, as Aharon spoke unto the whole congregation of the children
of Yisra’el, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of YHWH
appeared in the cloud.

Reader 6 (Thursday Evening Portion)

YHWH brought quail at even and manna in the morning and everyone had as much as they wanted

Exo 16:11 And YHWH spoke unto Moshe, saying,
Exo 16:12 I have heard the murmurings of the children of Yisra’el: speak unto them, saying,
At even you shall eat flesh, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread; and you shall
know that I am YHWH your Elohim.
Exo 16:13 And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and
in the morning the dew lay round about the host.
Exo 16:14 And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness
there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.
Exo 16:15 And when the children of Yisra’el saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for
they knew not what it was. And Moshe said unto them, This is the bread which YHWH has
given you to eat.
Exo 16:16 This is the thing which YHWH has commanded, Gather of it every man according
to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take you
every man for them which are in his tents.
Exo 16:17 And the children of Yisra’el did so, and gathered, some more, some less.
Exo 16:18 And when they did measure it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing
over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his
eating.

Moshe commanded them to take only what they needed for the day but some took extra and it spoiled

Exo 16:19 And Moshe said, Let no man leave of it till the morning.
Exo 16:20 Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moshe; but some of them left of it until
the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moshe was angry with them.
Exo 16:21 And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating: and when
the sun waxed hot, it melted.
Exo 16:22 And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two
omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moshe.

Moshe told them to bake and boil what they needed on the 6th day so they would have what they needed for the sabbath

Exo 16:23 And he said unto them, This is that which YHWH has said, Tomorrow is the rest
of the holy sabbath unto YHWH: bake that which you will bake to day, and boil that you will
boil; and that which remains over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.
Exo 16:24 And they laid it up till the morning, as Moshe bade: and it did not stink, neither
was there any worm therein.
Exo 16:25 And Moshe said, Eat that to day; for today is a sabbath unto YHWH: today you
shall not find it in the field.
Exo 16:26 Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there
shall be none.

Some people went out on the sabbath to gather but YHWH said keep my laws, I have given you double on the 6th day for sabbath

Exo 16:27 And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for
to gather, and they found none.
Exo 16:28 And YHWH said unto Moshe, How long refuse you to keep my commandments
and my laws?
Exo 16:29 See, for that YHWH has given you the sabbath, therefore he gives you on the sixth
day the bread of two days; abide you every man in his place, let no man go out of his place
on the seventh day.
Exo 16:30 So the people rested on the seventh day.
Exo 16:31 And the house of Yisra’el called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander
seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

YHWH commands Moshe and Aharon to fill a pot with an omer of manna for a memorial to future generations

Exo 16:32 And Moshe said, This is the thing which YHWH commands, Fill an omer of it to
be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you in the
wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Mitzrayim.
Exo 16:33 And Moshe said unto Aharon, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein,
and lay it up before YHWH, to be kept for your generations.
Exo 16:34 As YHWH commanded Moshe, so Aharon laid it up before the Testimony, to be
kept.
Exo 16:35 And the children of Yisra’el did eat manna forty years, until they came to a land
inhabited; they did eat manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Kena’an.
Exo 16:36 Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah.

Reader 7 (6th Day Friday Morning Double Portion)

Yisra’el complained in Refidim because there was no water to drink

Exo 17:1 And all the congregation of the children of Yisra’el journeyed from the wilderness of
Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of YHWH, and pitched in Refidim:
and there was no water for the people to drink.
Exo 17:2 Wherefore the people did chide with Moshe, and said, Give us water that we may
drink. And Moshe said unto them, Why chide you with me? why do you tempt YHWH?
Exo 17:3 And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moshe,
and said, Wherefore is this that you have brought us up out of Mitzrayim, to kill us and our
children and our livestock with thirst?

YHWH told Moshe to strike the rock at Chorev and He will be there and bring water out of the rock

Exo 17:4 And Moshe cried unto YHWH, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be
almost ready to stone me.
Exo 17:5 And YHWH said unto Moshe, Go on before the people, and take with you of the
elders of Yisra’el; and your rod, wherewith you smote the river, take in your hand, and go.
Exo 17:6 Behold, I will stand before you there upon the rock in Chorev; and you shall smite
the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moshe did so
in the sight of the elders of Yisra’el.
Exo 17:7 And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding
of the children of Yisra’el, and because they tempted YHWH, saying, Is YHWH among us, or
not?

Amalek made war with Yisra’el and When Moshe held up his arms they won and if not they would lose so they held up his arms

Exo 17:8 Then came Amalek, and fought with Yisra’el in Refidim.
Exo 17:9 And Moshe said unto Yahushua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek:
tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of Elohim in my hand.
Exo 17:10 So Yahushua did as Moshe had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moshe,
Aharon, and Chur went up to the top of the hill.
Exo 17:11 And it came to pass, when Moshe held up his hand, that Yisra’el prevailed: and
when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
Exo 17:12 But Moshe’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he
sat thereon; and Aharon and Chur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the
other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
Exo 17:13 And Yahushua overthrew Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
Exo 17:14 And YHWH said unto Moshe, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it
in the ears of Yahushua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under
heaven.

Moshe built an altar and called it YHWH-Nissi because YHWH will have war with Amalek

Exo 17:15 And Moshe built an altar, and called the name of it YHWH-nissi:
Exo 17:16 For he said, Because YHWH has sworn that YHWH will have war with Amalek
from generation to generation.

Haftarah (Shabbat Evening Portion)

D’vorah and Ya’el fought for Yisra’el when many men wouldn’t and it was a shame to the men who wouldn’t

Jdg 4:4 And Devorah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidot, she judged Yisra’el at that time.
Jdg 4:5 And she dwelt under the palm tree of Devorah between Ramah and Beit-El in mount
Efrayim: and the children of Yisra’el came up to her for judgment.
Jdg 4:6 And she sent and called Barak the son of Avino’am out of Kedesh-Naftali, and said
unto him, Has not YHWH Elohim of Yisra’el commanded, saying, Go and draw toward
mount Tavor, and take with you ten thousand men of the children of Naftali and of the
children of Zevulun?
Jdg 4:7 And I will draw unto you to the river Kishon Sisera, the captain of Yavin’s army, with
his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into your hand.
Jdg 4:8 And Barak said unto her, If you will go with me, then I will go: but if you will not go
with me, then I will not go.
Jdg 4:9 And she said, I will surely go with you: notwithstanding the journey that you take
shall not be for your honor; for YHWH shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And
Devorah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.
Jdg 4:10 And Barak called Zevulun and Naftali to Kedesh; and he went up with ten thousand
men at his feet: and Devorah went up with him.
Jdg 4:11 Now Chever the Keni, which was of the children of Chovav the father in law of
Moshe, had severed himself from the Keni, and pitched his tent unto the plain of
Tza’anannim, which is by Kedesh.
Jdg 4:12 And they showed Sisera that Barak the son of Avino’am was gone up to mount
Tavor.
Jdg 4:13 And Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron,
and all the people that were with him, from Charoshet of the Gentiles unto the river of
Kishon.
Jdg 4:14 And Devorah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which YHWH has delivered
Sisera into your hand: is not YHWH gone out before you? So Barak went down from mount
Tavor, and ten thousand men after him.
Jdg 4:15 And YHWH discomfited Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his host, with the edge
of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera lighted down off his chariot, and fled away on his
feet.
Jdg 4:16 But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Charoshet of the
Gentiles: and all the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there was not a man
left.
Jdg 4:17 Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Ya’el the wife of Chever the Keni:
for there was peace between Yavin the king of Chatzor and the house of Chever the Keni.
Jdg 4:18 And Ya’el went out to meet Sisera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to
me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a
mantle.
Jdg 4:19 And he said unto her, Give me, I pray you, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty.
And she opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him.
Jdg 4:20 Again he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man
does come and enquire of you, and say, Is there any man here? that you shall say, No.
Jdg 4:21 Then Ya’el Chever’s wife took a nail of the tent, and took a hammer in her hand,
and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the
ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died.
Jdg 4:22 And, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Ya’el came out to meet him, and said unto
him, Come, and I will show you the man whom you seek. And when he came into her tent,
behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nail was in his temples.

to Sisera a prey of diverse colors, a prey of diverse colors of needlework, of diverse colors of
needlework on both sides, meet for the necks of them that take the spoil?
