Parashat Text with Readers and Daily Portions (Reader 1 Starts on Saturday Evening)

Vayera “And He Appeared”
Gen 18:1 – 22:24 , 2 Kings 4:1-37

Reader 1 (Evening Portion)

Gen 18:1 And YHWH appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in
the heat of the day;
Gen 18:2 And he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he
saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,
Gen 18:3 And said, My Adonai, if now I have found favor in your sight, pass not away, I pray
you, from your servant:
Gen 18:4 Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under
the tree:
Gen 18:5 And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort you your hearts; after that you shall
pass on: for therefore are you come to your servant. And they said, So do, as you have said.
Gen 18:6 And Avraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three
measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth.
Gen 18:7 And Avraham ran unto the herd, and fetched a calf tender and good, and gave it unto
a young man; and he hasted to dress it.
Gen 18:8 And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before
them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.

(Morning Portion)

Gen 18:9 And they said unto him, Where is Sarah your wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.
Gen 18:10 And he said, I will certainly return unto you according to the time of life; and, lo,
Sarah your wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind
him.
Gen 18:11 Now Avraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with
Sarah after the manner of women.
Gen 18:12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have
pleasure, my adone being old also?
Gen 18:13 And YHWH said unto Avraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a
surety bear a child, which am old?
Gen 18:14 Is anything too hard for YHWH? At the time appointed I will return unto you,
according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

Reader 2 (Evening Portion)

Gen 18:15 Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And He said, Nay; but
you did laugh.
Gen 18:16 And the men rose up from there, and looked toward Sedom: and Avraham went with
them to bring them on the way.
Gen 18:17 And YHWH said, Shall I hide from Avraham that thing which I do;
Gen 18:18 Seeing that Avraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the
nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
Gen 18:19 For I know him, that he will command * his children and his household after him,
and they shall keep the way of YHWH, to do righteousness and judgment; that YHWH may
bring upon Avraham * that which He has spoken of him.
Gen 18:20 And YHWH said, Because the cry of Sedom and Amorah is great, and because their
sin is very grievous;
Gen 18:21 I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry
of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.
Gen 18:22 And the men turned their faces from there, and went toward Sedom: but Avraham
stood yet before YHWH.

(Morning Portion)

Gen 18:23 And Avraham drew near, and said, Will you also destroy the righteous with the
wicked?
Gen 18:24 Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: will you also destroy and not
spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?
Gen 18:25 That be far from you to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked:
and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from you: Shall not the Judge of
all the earth do right?
Gen 18:26 And YHWH said, If I find in Sedom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare
all the place for their sakes.
Gen 18:27 And Avraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto
YHWH, which am but dust and ashes:
Gen 18:28 Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: will you destroy * all the city
for lack of five? And He said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.
Gen 18:29 And he spoke unto Him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found
there. And He said, I will not do it for forty’s sake.
Gen 18:30 And he said unto Him, Oh let not Adonai be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure
there shall thirty be found there. And He said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.
Gen 18:31 And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto YHWH: Peradventure
there shall be twenty found there. And He said, I will not destroy it for twenty’s sake.
Gen 18:32 And he said, Oh let not Adonai be angry, and I will speak yet but this once:
Peradventure ten shall be found there. And He said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.
Gen 18:33 And YHWH went His way, as soon as He had left communing with Avraham: and
Avraham returned unto his place.

Reader 3 (Evening Portion)

Gen 19:1 And there came two angels to Sedom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sedom: and
Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the
ground;
Gen 19:2 And he said, Behold now, my adonai, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house,
and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and you shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And
they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.
Gen 19:3 And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his
house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.
Gen 19:4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sedom, compassed the
house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:
Gen 19:5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to you
this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.
Gen 19:6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,
Gen 19:7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.
Gen 19:8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you,
bring them out * unto you, and do you to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men
do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.
Gen 19:9 And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn,
and [will he surely judge]: now will we deal worse with you, than with them. And they
pressed sore upon the man Lot, and came near to break the door.
Gen 19:10 But the men put forth * their hand, and pulled * Lot into the house to them, and shut
the door.
Gen 19:11 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both
small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.
Gen 19:12 And the men said unto Lot, Have you here any besides a son-in-law, and your sons,
and your daughters? and whatsoever you have in the city, bring them out of this place:
Gen 19:13 For we will destroy * this place, because the cry of them is waxen great * before the
face of YHWH; and YHWH has sent us to destroy it.

(Morning Portion)

Gen 19:14 And Lot went out, and spoke unto his sons-in-law, which married his daughters, and
said, Up, get you out of this place; for YHWH will destroy * this city. But he seemed as one
that mocked unto his sons-in-law.
Gen 19:15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take * your
wife, and your two daughters, which are here; lest you be consumed in the lawlessness of the
city.
Gen 19:16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his
wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; YHWH being merciful unto him: and they
brought him forth, and set him outside the city.
Gen 19:17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth * abroad, that he said, Escape
for your life; look not behind you, neither stay you in all the plain; escape to the mountain,
lest you be consumed.
Gen 19:18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Adonai:
Gen 19:19 Behold now, your servant has found grace in your sight, and you have magnified your
mercy, which you have showed unto me in saving * my life; and I cannot escape to the
mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:
Gen 19:20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape
there, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.

Reader 4 (Evening Portion)

Gen 19:21 And he said unto him, See, I have accepted you concerning this thing also, that I will
not overthrow * this city, of which you have spoken.
Gen 19:22 Haste you, escape there; for I cannot do anything till you get there. Therefore the
name of the city was called Tzo’ar.
Gen 19:23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Tzo’ar.
Gen 19:24 Then YHWH rained upon Sedom and upon Amorah brimstone and fire from YHWH
out of heaven;
Gen 19:25 And He overthrew * those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the
cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
Gen 19:26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
Gen 19:27 And Avraham got up early in the morning to the place where he stood * before
YHWH:
Gen 19:28 And he looked toward Sedom and Amorah, and toward all the land of the plain, and
beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.
Gen 19:29 And it came to pass, when Elohim destroyed * the cities of the plain, that Elohim
remembered * Avraham, and sent * Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when He
overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.
Gen 19:30 And Lot went up out of Tzo’ar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters
with him; for he feared to dwell in Tzo’ar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.
Gen 19:31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in
the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:
Gen 19:32 Come, let us make * our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may
preserve seed of our father.
Gen 19:33 And they made * their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay
with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
Gen 19:34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold,
I lay last night with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go you in, and
lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
Gen 19:35 And they made * their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and
lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
Gen 19:36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.
Gen 19:37 And the firstborn bore a son, and called his name Mo’av: the same is the father of the
Mo’avim unto this day.
Gen 19:38 And the younger, she also bore a son, and called his name Ben-ammi: the same is the
father of the children of Ammon unto this day.

(Morning Portion)

Gen 20:1 And Avraham journeyed from there toward the south country, and dwelled between
Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.
Gen 20:2 And Avraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Avimelech king of Gerar
sent, and took * Sarah.
Gen 20:3 But Elohim came to Avimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, you are
a dead man, for the woman which you have taken; for she is a man’s wife.
Gen 20:4 But Avimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, will you slay also a
righteous nation?
Gen 20:5 Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my
brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.
Gen 20:6 And Elohim said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that you did this in the integrity of
your heart; for I also withheld you from sinning against me: therefore suffered I you not to
touch her.
Gen 20:7 Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for you,
and you shall live: and if you restore her not, know you that you shall surely die, you, and all
that are yours.
Gen 20:8 Therefore Avimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told *
all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.
Gen 20:9 Then Avimelech called Avraham, and said unto him, What have you done unto us?
and [how] have I offended you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great
sin? you have done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.
Gen 20:10 And Avimelech said unto Avraham, What saw you, that you have done * this thing?
Gen 20:11 And Avraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of Elohim is not in this place;
and they will slay me for my wife’s sake.
Gen 20:12 And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the
daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
Gen 20:13 And it came to pass, when Elohim caused me to wander from my father’s house, that
I said unto her, This is your kindness which you shall show unto me; at every place where we
shall come, say of me, He is my brother.
Gen 20:14 And Avimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and
gave them unto Avraham, and restored him * Sarah his wife.
Gen 20:15 And Avimelech said, Behold, my land is before you: dwell where it pleases you.
Gen 20:16 And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given your brother a thousand pieces of
silver: behold, he is to you a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with you, and with all
other: thus she was reproved.
Gen 20:17 So Avraham prayed unto Elohim: and Elohim healed * Avimelech, and his wife, and
his maidservants; and they bore children.
Gen 20:18 For YHWH had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Avimelech, because of
Sarah Avraham’s wife.
Gen 21:1 And YHWH visited * Sarah as He had said, and YHWH did unto Sarah as He had
spoken.
Gen 21:2 For Sarah conceived, and bore Avraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which
Elohim had spoken to him.
Gen 21:3 And Avraham called * the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bore
to him, Yitzchak.
Gen 21:4 And Avraham circumcised his son Yitzchak being eight days old, as Elohim had
commanded him.

Reader 5 (Evening Portion)

Gen 21:5 And Avraham was a hundred years old, when * his son Yitzchak was born unto him.
Gen 21:6 And Sarah said, Elohim has made me to laugh, all that hear will laugh with me.
Gen 21:7 And she said, Who would have said unto Avraham, that Sarah should have given
children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age.
Gen 21:8 And the child grew, and was weaned: and Avraham made a great feast the same day
that * Yitzchak was weaned.
Gen 21:9 And Sarah saw * the son of Hagar the Mitzrayim, which she had born unto Avraham,
mocking.
Gen 21:10 Wherefore she said unto Avraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the
son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, with Yitzchak.
Gen 21:11 And the thing was very grievous in Avraham’s sight because of his son.
Gen 21:12 And Elohim said unto Avraham, Let it not be grievous in your sight because of the
lad, and because of your bondwoman; in all that Sarah has said unto you, hearken unto her
voice; for in Yitzchak shall your seed be called.
Gen 21:13 And also * of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is your seed.
Gen 21:14 And Avraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water,
and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away: and she
departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Be’er-Sheva.

(Morning Portion)

Gen 21:15 And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast * the child under one of the
shrubs.
Gen 21:16 And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a
bowshot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him,
and lifted up * her voice, and wept.
Gen 21:17 And Elohim heard * the voice of the lad; and the angel of Elohim called to Hagar out
of heaven, and said unto her, What ails you, Hagar? fear not; for Elohim has heard the voice
of the lad where he is.
Gen 21:18 Arise, lift up * the lad, and hold him in your hand; for I will make him a great nation.
Gen 21:19 And Elohim opened * her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled *
the bottle with water, and gave * the lad drink.
Gen 21:20 And Elohim was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became
an archer.
Gen 21:21 And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran: and his mother took him a wife out of the
land of Mitzrayim.

Reader 6 (Evening Portion)

Gen 21:22 And it came to pass at that time, that Avimelech and Pichol the chief captain of his
host spoke unto Avraham, saying, Elohim is with you in all that you do:
Gen 21:23 Now therefore swear unto me here by Elohim that you will not deal falsely with me,
nor with my son, nor with my son’s son: but according to the kindness that I have done unto
you, you shall do unto me, and to the land wherein you have sojourned.
Gen 21:24 And Avraham said, I will swear.
Gen 21:25 And Avraham reproved * Avimelech because of a well of water, which Avimelech’s
servants had violently taken away.
Gen 21:26 And Avimelech said, I know not who has done * this thing: neither did you tell me,
neither yet heard I of it, but today.
Gen 21:27 And Avraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them unto Avimelech; and both of
them made a covenant.
Gen 21:28 And Avraham set * seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves.
Gen 21:29 And Avimelech said unto Avraham, What mean these seven ewe lambs which you
have set by themselves?
Gen 21:30 And he said, For * seven ewe lambs shall you take of my hand, that they may be a
witness unto me, that I have dug * this well.
Gen 21:31 Wherefore he called that place Be’er-Sheva; because there they swore both of them.
Gen 21:32 Thus they made a covenant at Be’er-Sheva: then Avimelech rose up, and Pichol the
chief captain of his host, and they returned into the land of the Pelishtim.
Gen 21:33 And planted a grove in Beer-sheva, and called there on the name of YHWH, El Olam.
Gen 21:34 And Avraham sojourned in the Pelishtims’ land many days.

Reader 7 (6th Day Morning Portion)

Gen 22:1 And it came to pass after these things, that Elohim did test * Avraham, and said unto
him, Avraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.
Gen 22:2 And He said, Take now * your son, * your only * Yitzchak, whom you love, and get you
into the land of Moriyah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains
which I will tell you of.
Gen 22:3 And Avraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled * his donkey, and took * two
of his young men with him, and Yitzchak his son, and cleaved the wood for the burnt
offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which Elohim had told him.
Gen 22:4 Then on the third day Avraham lifted up * his eyes, and saw * the place afar off.
Gen 22:5 And Avraham said unto his young men, Abide you here with the donkey; and I and
the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.
Gen 22:6 And Avraham took * the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Yitzchak his son;
and he took * the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.
Gen 22:7 And Yitzchak spoke unto Avraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here
am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt
offering?
Gen 22:8 And Avraham said, My son, Elohim will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering:
so they went both of them together.
Gen 22:9 And they came to the place which Elohim had told him of; and Avraham built * an
altar there, [and arranged * the wood], and bound * Yitzchak his son, and laid him on the
altar upon the wood.
Gen 22:10 And Avraham stretched forth * his hand, and took * the knife to slay * his son.
Gen 22:11 And the angel of YHWH called unto him out of heaven, and said, Avraham,
Avraham: and he said, Here am I.
Gen 22:12 And he said, Lay not your hand upon the lad, neither do you anything unto him: for
now I know that you fear Elohim, seeing you have not withheld * your son, * your only son
from me.
Gen 22:13 And Avraham lifted up * his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught
in a thicket by his horns: and Avraham went and took * the ram, and offered him up for a
burnt offering in the stead of his son.
Gen 22:14 And Avraham called the name of that place YHWH-yireh: as it is said to this day, In
the mount of YHWH it shall be seen.
Gen 22:15 And the angel of YHWH called unto Avraham out of heaven the second time,
Gen 22:16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith YHWH, for because you have done * this
thing, and have not withheld * your son, * your only son:
Gen 22:17 That in blessing I will bless you, and in multiplying I will multiply * your seed as the
stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and your seed shall possess
the gate of his enemies;
Gen 22:18 And in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because you have
obeyed my voice.
Gen 22:19 So Avraham returned unto his young men, and they rose up and went together to
Be’er-Sheva; and Avraham dwelt at Be’er-Sheva.
Gen 22:20 And it came to pass after these things, that it was told Avraham, saying, Behold,
Milcah, she has also born children unto your brother Nachor;
Gen 22:21 * Utz his firstborn, and Buz his brother, and Kemu’el the father of Aram,
Gen 22:22 And Kesed, and Chazo, and Pildash, and Yidlaf, and Betu’el.
Gen 22:23 And Betu’el begot * Rivka: these eight Milcah did bear to Nachor, Avraham’s
brother.
Gen 22:24 And his concubine, whose name was Re’umah, she bore also * Tebach, and Gacham,
and Tachash, and Ma’achah.

Haftarah (Shabbat Evening Portion)

2Ki 4:1 Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Eli’sha,
saying, Your servant my husband is dead; and you know that your servant did fear * YHWH:
and the creditor is come to take unto him * my two sons to be bondmen.
2Ki 4:2 And Eli’sha said unto her, What shall I do for you? tell me, what have you in the house?
And she said, Your handmaid has not anything in the house, save a pot of oil.
2Ki 4:3 Then he said, Go, borrow you vessels abroad of all your neighbors, empty vessels;
borrow not a few.
2Ki 4:4 And when you are come in, you shall shut the door upon you and upon your sons, and
shall pour out into all those vessels, and you shall set aside that which is full.
2Ki 4:5 So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the
vessels to her; and she poured out.
2Ki 4:6 And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet
a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.
2Ki 4:7 Then she came and told the man of Elohim. And he said, Go, sell * the oil, and pay *
your debt, and live you and your children of the rest.
2Ki 4:8 And it fell on a day, that Eli’sha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she
constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in there to
eat bread.
2Ki 4:9 And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is a holy man of
Elohim, which passes by us continually.
2Ki 4:10 Let us make a little chamber, I pray you, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed,
and a table, and a stool, and a menorah: and it shall be, when he comes to us, that he shall
turn in there.
2Ki 4:11 And it fell on a day, that he came there, and he turned into the chamber, and lay there.
2Ki 4:12 And he said to Gehazi his servant, Call this Shunameet. And when he had called her,
she stood before him.
2Ki 4:13 And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, you have been careful for us with all
this care; what is to be done for you? would you be spoken for to the king, or to the captain
of the host? And she answered, I dwell among my own people.
2Ki 4:14 And he said, What then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered, Verily she has no
child, and her husband is old.
2Ki 4:15 And he said, Call her. And when he had called her, she stood in the door.
2Ki 4:16 And he said, About this season, according to the time of life, you shall embrace a son.
And she said, Nay, my lord, you man of Elohim, do not lie unto your handmaid.
2Ki 4:17 And the woman conceived, and bore a son at that season that Eli’sha had said unto her,
according to the time of life.
2Ki 4:18 And when the child was grown, it fell on a day, that he went out to his father to the
reapers.
2Ki 4:19 And he said unto his father, My head, my head. And he said to a lad, Carry him to his
mother.
2Ki 4:20 And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till
noon, and then died.
2Ki 4:21 And she went up, and laid him on the bed of the man of Elohim, and shut the door
upon him, and went out.
2Ki 4:22 And she called unto her husband, and said, Send me, I pray you, one of the young
men, and one of the donkeys, that I may run to the man of Elohim, and come again.
2Ki 4:23 And he said, Why will you go to him today? it is neither new moon, nor sabbath. And
she said, It shall be well.
2Ki 4:24 Then she saddled a donkey, and said to her servant, Drive, and go forward; slack not
thy riding for me, except I bid you.
2Ki 4:25 So she went and came unto the man of Elohim to mount Carmel. And it came to pass,
when the man of Elohim saw her afar off, that he said to Gehazi his servant, Behold, yonder
is that Shunammite:
2Ki 4:26 Run now, I pray you, to meet her, and say unto her, Is it well with you? is it well with
your husband? is it well with the child? And she answered, Shalom.
2Ki 4:27 And when she came to the man of Elohim to the hill, she caught him by the feet: but
Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of Elohim said, Let her alone; for her
soul is vexed within her: and YHWH has hid it from me, and has not told me.
2Ki 4:28 Then she said, Did I desire a son of my lord? did I not say, Do not deceive me?
2Ki 4:29 Then he said to Gehazi, Gird up your loins, and take my staff in your hand, and go
your way: if you meet any man, salute him not; and if any salute you, answer him not again:
and lay my staff upon the face of the child.
2Ki 4:30 And the mother of the child said, As YHWH lives, and as your soul lives, I will not
leave you. And he arose, and followed her.
2Ki 4:31 And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid * the staff upon the face of the child; but
there was neither voice, nor hearing. Wherefore he went again to meet him, and told him,
saying, The child is not awaked.
2Ki 4:32 And when Eli’sha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon
his bed.
2Ki 4:33 He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them both, and prayed unto YHWH.
2Ki 4:34 And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his
eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child;
and the flesh of the child waxed warm.
2Ki 4:35 Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched
himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened * his eyes.
2Ki 4:36 And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunameet. So he called her. And when she
was come in unto him, he said, Take up your son.
2Ki 4:37 Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took up *
her son, and went out.
