Num 13:1 – 15:41 , Joshua 2:1 – 24

Reader 1 (Saturday Evening Portion)

–  Moshe commanded to send princes of the tribes to search out Kena’an

Num 13:1 And YHWH spoke unto Moshe, saying,
Num 13:2 Send you men, that they may search * the land of Kena’an, which I give unto the
children of Yisra’el: of every tribe of their fathers shall you send a man, every one a ruler
among them.
Num 13:3 And Moshe by the commandment of YHWH sent them from the wilderness of Paran:
all those men were heads of the children of Yisra’el.
Num 13:4 And these were their names: of the tribe of Re’uven, Shammua the son of Zakkur.
Num 13:5 Of the tribe of Shim’on, Shafat the son of Chori.
Num 13:6 Of the tribe of Yahudah, Kalev the son of Yefunneh.
Num 13:7 Of the tribe of Yissakhar, Yig’al the son of Yosef.
Num 13:8 Of the tribe of Efrayim, Hoshea the son of Nun.
Num 13:9 Of the tribe of Ben’yamin, Palti the son of Rafu.
Num 13:10 Of the tribe of Zevulun, Gaddi’el the son of Sodi.
Num 13:11 Of the tribe of Yosef, of the tribe of Menasheh, Gaddi the son of Susi.
Num 13:12 Of the tribe of Dan, Ammi’el the son of Gemalli.
Num 13:13 Of the tribe of Asher, Setur the son of Mikha’el.
Num 13:14 Of the tribe of Naftali, Nachbi the son of Vofsi.
Num 13:15 Of the tribe of Gad, Ge’u’el the son of Makhi.
Num 13:16 These are the names of the men which Moshe sent to spy out * the land. And Moshe
called Hoshea the son of Nun Yahushua.

(Sunday Morning Portion)

–  Moshe commanded to send princes of the tribes to search out Kena’an

Num 13:17 And Moshe sent them to spy out * the land of Kena’an, and said unto them, Get you
up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:
Num 13:18 And see * the land, what it is; and the people that dwells therein, whether they be
strong or weak, few or many;
Num 13:19 And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities
that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strongholds;
Num 13:20 And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or
not. And be you of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the
time of the firstripe grapes.

Reader 2 (Sunday Evening Portion)

–  The spies went to Eshkol and took grapes, pomegranates, and figs to bring back

Num 13:21 So they went up, and searched * the land from the wilderness of Tzin unto Rechov,
as men come to Chamat.
Num 13:22 And they ascended by the south, and came unto Chevron; where Achi’man, Sheshai,
and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Chevron was built seven years before Tzo’an
in Mitzrayim.)
Num 13:23 And they came unto the brook of Eshkol, and cut down from there a branch with
one cluster of grapes, and they bore it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the
pomegranates, and of the figs.
Num 13:24 The place was called the brook Eshkol, because of the cluster of grapes which the
children of Yisra’el cut down from there.

–  The spies brought back fruit and said the land is good but the people are strong who live there

Num 13:25 And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.
Num 13:26 And they went and came to Moshe, and to Aharon, and to all the congregation of
the children of Yisra’el, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word
unto them, and unto all the congregation, and showed them * the fruit of the land.
Num 13:27 And they told him, and said, We came unto the land where you sent us, and surely it
flows with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.
Num 13:28 Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled,
and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.
Num 13:29 The Amaleki dwell in the land of the south: and the Chitti, and the Yevusi, and the
Amori, dwell in the mountains: and the Kena’ani dwell by the sea, and by the coast of
Yarden.

(Monday Morning Portion)

–  Kalev tells the people they should go in and posses it

Num 13:30 And Kalev stilled the people before Moshe, and said, Let us go up at once, and
possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

–  Some princes said the land eats the inhabitants and the giants are too strong

Num 13:31 But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people;
for they are stronger than we.
Num 13:32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the
children of Yisra’el, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that
eats up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great
stature.
Num 13:33 And there we saw * the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we
were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
Num 14:1 And all the congregation lifted up * their voice, and cried; and the people wept that
night.

–  The people murmured and wanted to return to Mitzrayim

Num 14:2 And all the children of Yisra’el murmured against Moshe and against Aharon: and
the whole congregation said unto them, Would Elohim that we had died in the land of
Mitzrayim! or would Elohim we had died in this wilderness!
Num 14:3 And wherefore has YHWH brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our
wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Mitzrayim?
Num 14:4 And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into
Mitzrayim.

–  Moshe and Aharon prayed and Yahushua and Kalev rent their clothes

Num 14:5 Then Moshe and Aharon fell on their faces before all the assembly of the
congregation of the children of Yisra’el.
Num 14:6 And Yahushua the son of Nun, and Kalev the son of Yefunneh, which were of them
that searched * the land, rent their clothes:
Num 14:7 And they spoke unto all the company of the children of Yisra’el, saying, The land,
which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.

Reader 3 (Monday Evening Portion)

–  Yahushua and Kalev told the people not to rebel but they wanted to stone them

Num 14:8 If YHWH delight in us, then He will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land
which flows with milk and honey.
Num 14:9 Only rebel not you against YHWH, neither fear you * the people of the land; for they
are bread for us: their defense is departed from them, and YHWH is with us: fear them not.
Num 14:10 But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of YHWH
appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Yisra’el.

–  YHWH tells Moshe He will destroy Yisra’el and make a nation from him

Num 14:11 And YHWH said unto Moshe, How long will this people provoke me? and how long
will it be before they believe me, for all the signs which I have showed among them?
Num 14:12 I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of you a
greater nation and mightier than they.
Num 14:13 And Moshe said unto YHWH, Then the Mitzrayim shall hear it, (for you brought up
* this people in your might from among them;)
Num 14:14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that you
YHWH are among this people, that you YHWH are seen face to face, and that your cloud
stands over them, and that you go before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a
pillar of fire by night.
Num 14:15 Now if you shall kill * this people as one man, then the nations which have heard *
the fame of you will speak, saying,
Num 14:16 Because YHWH was not able to bring * this people into the land which He swore
unto them, therefore He has slain them in the wilderness.
Num 14:17 And now, I beseech you, let the power of my Adonai be great, according as you have
spoken, saying,
Num 14:18 YHWH is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving lawlessness and
transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the lawlessness of the fathers
upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.
Num 14:19 Pardon, I beseech you, the lawlessness of this people according unto the greatness
of your mercy, and as you have forgiven this people, from Mitzrayim even until now.

(Tuesday Morning Portion)

Num 14:20 And YHWH said, I have pardoned according to your word:
Num 14:21 But as truly as I live, * all the earth shall be filled with the glory of YHWH.
Num 14:22 Because all those men which have seen * my glory, and my miracles, which I did in
Mitzrayim and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not
hearkened to my voice;
Num 14:23 Surely they shall not see * the land which I swore unto their fathers, neither shall
any of them that provoked me see it:
Num 14:24 But my servant Kalev, because he had another spirit with him, and has followed me
fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.
Num 14:25 (Now the Amaleki and the Kena’ani dwelt in the valley.) Tomorrow turn you, and
get you into the wilderness by the way of the Sea of Suf.

Reader 4 (Tuesday Evening Portion)

Num 14:26 And YHWH spoke unto Moshe and unto Aharon, saying,
Num 14:27 How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I
have heard * the murmurings of the children of Yisra’el, which they murmur against me.
Num 14:28 Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith YHWH, as you have spoken in my ears, so
will I do to you:
Num 14:29 Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you,
according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured
against me,
Num 14:30 Surely you shall not come into the land, which I swore * to make you dwell therein,
save Kalev the son of Yefunneh, and Yahushua the son of Nun.
Num 14:31 But your little ones, which you said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they
shall know * the land which you have despised.
Num 14:32 But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.
Num 14:33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear * your
whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.
Num 14:34 After the number of the days in which you searched * the land, forty days, each day
for a year, shall you bear * your lawlessness, forty years, and you shall know * my breach of
promise.
Num 14:35 I YHWH have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are
gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they
shall die.
Num 14:36 And the men, which Moshe sent to search * the land, who returned, and made * all
the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,
Num 14:37 Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague
before YHWH.
Num 14:38 But Yahushua the son of Nun, and Kalev the son of Yefunneh, which were of the
men that went to search * the land, lived.

(Wednesday Morning Portion)

Num 14:39 And Moshe told * these sayings unto all the children of Yisra’el: and the people
mourned greatly.
Num 14:40 And they rose up early in the morning, and got them up into the top of the
mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which YHWH has promised:
for we have sinned.
Num 14:41 And Moshe said, Wherefore now do you transgress * the commandment of YHWH?
but it shall not prosper.
Num 14:42 Go not up, for YHWH is not among you; that you be not smitten before your
enemies.
Num 14:43 For the Amaleki and the Kena’ani are there before you, and you shall fall by the
sword: because you are turned away from YHWH, therefore YHWH will not be with you.
Num 14:44 But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant
of YHWH, and Moshe, departed not out of the camp.
Num 14:45 Then the Amaleki came down, and the Kena’ani which dwelt in that hill, and smote
them, and discomfited them, unto Chormah.
Num 15:1 And YHWH spoke unto Moshe, saying,
Num 15:2 Speak unto the children of Yisra’el, and say unto them, When you be come into the
land of your habitations, which I give unto you,
Num 15:3 And will make an offering by fire unto YHWH, a burnt offering, or a sacrifice in
performing a vow, or in a freewill offering, or in your solemn feasts, to make a sweet savor
unto YHWH, of the herd, or of the flock:
Num 15:4 Then shall he that offers his offering unto YHWH bring a minkha of a tenth deal of
flour mingled with the fourth of a hin of oil.
Num 15:5 And the fourth of a hin of wine for a drink offering shall you prepare with the burnt
offering or sacrifice, for one lamb.
Num 15:6 Or for a ram, you shall prepare for a minkha two tenth deals of flour mingled with
the third of a hin of oil.
Num 15:7 And for a drink offering you shall offer the third of a hin of wine, for a sweet savor
unto YHWH.

Reader 5 (Wednesday Evening Portion)

Num 15:8 And when you prepare a bullock for a burnt offering, or for a sacrifice in performing
a vow, or peace offerings unto YHWH:
Num 15:9 Then shall he bring with a bullock a minkha of three tenth deals of flour mingled with
half a hin of oil.
Num 15:10 And you shall bring for a drink offering half a hin of wine, for an offering made by
fire, of a sweet savor unto YHWH.
Num 15:11 Thus shall it be done for one bullock, or for one ram, or for a lamb, or a kid.
Num 15:12 According to the number that you shall prepare, so shall you do to every one
according to their number.

(Thursday Morning Portion)

Num 15:13 All that are born of the country shall do * these things after this manner, in offering
an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor unto YHWH.
Num 15:14 And if a stranger sojourn with you, or whosoever be among you in your generations,
and will offer an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor unto YHWH; as you do, so he shall
do.
Num 15:15 One ordinance for you of the congregation, and also for the stranger that sojourns,
an ordinance forever in your generations: as you are, so shall the stranger be before YHWH.
Num 15:16 One law and one manner shall be for you, and for the stranger that sojourns with
you.

Reader 6 (Thursday Evening Portion)

Num 15:17 And YHWH spoke unto Moshe, saying,
Num 15:18 Speak unto the children of Yisra’el, and say unto them, When you come into the
land where I bring you,
Num 15:19 Then it shall be, that, when you eat of the bread of the land, you shall offer up a
heave offering unto YHWH.
Num 15:20 You shall offer up a cake of the first of your dough for a heave offering: as you do
the heave offering of the threshingfloor, so shall you heave it.
Num 15:21 Of the first of your dough you shall give unto YHWH a heave offering in your
generations.
Num 15:22 And if you have erred, and not observed * all these commandments, which YHWH
has spoken unto Moshe,
Num 15:23 * All that YHWH has commanded you by the hand of Moshe, from the day that
YHWH commanded, and henceforward among your generations;
Num 15:24 Then it shall be, if anything be committed by ignorance without the knowledge of
the congregation, that all the congregation shall offer one young bullock for a burnt offering,
for a sweet savor unto YHWH, with his minkha, and his drink offering, according to the
manner, and one kid of the goats for a sin offering.
Num 15:25 And the priest shall make an atonement for all the congregation of the children of
Yisra’el, and it shall be forgiven them; for it is ignorance: and they shall bring * their
offering, a sacrifice made by fire unto YHWH, and their sin offering before YHWH, for their
ignorance:
Num 15:26 And it shall be forgiven all the congregation of the children of Yisra’el, and the
stranger that sojourns among them; seeing all the people were in ignorance.

Reader 7 (6th Day Friday Morning Double Portion)

Num 15:27 And if any soul sin through ignorance, then he shall bring a she goat of the first year
for a sin offering.
Num 15:28 And the priest shall make an atonement for the soul that sins ignorantly, when he
sins by ignorance before YHWH, to make an atonement for him; and it shall be forgiven
him.
Num 15:29 You shall have one law for him that sins through ignorance, both for him that is
born among the children of Yisra’el, and for the stranger that sojourns among them.
Num 15:30 But the soul that does presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a
stranger, the same reproaches * YHWH; and that soul shall be cut off from among his
people.
Num 15:31 Because he has despised the word of YHWH, and has broken His commandment,
that soul shall utterly be cut off; his lawlessness shall be upon him.
Num 15:32 And while the children of Yisra’el were in the wilderness, they found a man that
gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.
Num 15:33 And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moshe and Aharon, and
unto all the congregation.
Num 15:34 And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.
Num 15:35 And YHWH said unto Moshe, The man shall be surely put to death: all the
congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp.
Num 15:36 And all the congregation brought him outside the camp, and stoned him with
stones, and he died; as YHWH commanded * Moshe.
Num 15:37 And YHWH spoke unto Moshe, saying,
Num 15:38 Speak unto the children of Yisra’el, and bid them that they make them fringes in the
borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of
the borders a thread of blue:
Num 15:39 And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that you may look upon it, and remember * all
the commandments of YHWH, and do them; and that you seek not after your own heart and
your own eyes, after which you use to go a whoring:
Num 15:40 That you may remember, and do * all my commandments, and be holy unto your
Elohim.
Num 15:41 I am YHWH your Elohim, which brought you out * of the land of Mitzrayim, to be
your Elohim: I am YHWH your Elohim.

Haftarah (Shabbat Evening Portion)

Jos 2:1 And Yahushua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go
view * the land, even Yericho. And they went, and came into an harlot’s house, named
Rachav, and lodged there.
Jos 2:2 And it was told the king of Yericho, saying, Behold, there came men in here to night of
the children of Yisra’el to search out * the country.
Jos 2:3 And the king of Yericho sent unto Rachav, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to
you, which are entered into your house: for they be come to search out * all the country.
Jos 2:4 And the woman took * the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto
me, but I know not from where they were:
Jos 2:5 And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the
men went out: where the men went I know not: pursue after them quickly; for you shall
overtake them.
Jos 2:6 But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of
flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.
Jos 2:7 And the men pursued after them the way to Yarden unto the fords: and as soon as they
which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.
Jos 2:8 And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;
Jos 2:9 And she said unto the men, I know that YHWH has given you * the land, and that your
terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
Jos 2:10 For we have heard * how YHWH dried up * the water of the sea of Suf for you, when
you came out of Mitzrayim; and what you did unto the two kings of the Amori, that were on
the other side Yarden, Sichon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. *
Jos 2:11 And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there
remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for YHWH your Elohim, He is Elohim
in heaven above, and in earth beneath.
Jos 2:12 Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by YHWH, since I have showed you
kindness, that you will also show kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token:
Jos 2:13 And that you will save alive * my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my
sisters, and all that they have, and deliver * our lives from death.
Jos 2:14 And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if you utter not * this our business. And
it shall be, when YHWH has given us * the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with you.
Jos 2:15 Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the
town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.
Jos 2:16 And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide
yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may you go your
way.
Jos 2:17 And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this your oath which you have
made us swear.
Jos 2:18 Behold, when we come into the land, you shall bind * this line of scarlet thread in the
window which you did let us down by: and you shall bring your father, and your mother, and
your brethren, and all your father’s household, home unto you.
Jos 2:19 And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of your house into the street,
his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with you
in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.
Jos 2:20 And if you utter * this our business, then we will be free of your oath which you have
made us to swear.
Jos 2:21 And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they
departed: and she bound * the scarlet line in the window.
Jos 2:22 And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the
pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found
them not.
Jos 2:23 So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and
came to Yahushua the son of Nun, and told him * all things that befell them:
Jos 2:24 And they said unto Yahushua, Truly YHWH has delivered into our hands * all the
land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.
